An ICM team of Staff, Volunteers and Trustees are set to take on the Orwell Challenge this month to raise vital funds for ICM. Walking a combined total of over 50 miles around the Orwell river, the ICM team are hoping to raise £200 from sponsorship for their efforts.
A well established local fundraising event, the Orwell Challenge invites individuals and teams to walk or run through the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Participants can choose a distance between 3 and 25 miles. With mixed abilities our team is planning to walk anywhere between 3 and 14 miles, combining to over 50 miles tread on the day.

This year the Orwell Challenge will be held on June 29th, the same week as our 10th anniversary, so we thought it a great way to celebrate a decade of ICM. Our brilliant team members Prachi, Linda, Nikki, Li, Rosy and Mayuri will be donning their walking and running shoes, and heading off along the trail.

ICM's Operations Director Nikki says of the challenge "I've set myself the challenge of walking 14 miles, which may not seem too daunting for some people, but after suffering debilitating fatigue with CFS/ME for over a decade, this feels like a huge challenge for me and a great step forward in my continued recovery from chronic illness. And what better way to get healthy again than with ICM in the beautiful Suffolk countryside"
With a growing focus of our work on health and wellbeing we knew this was the ideal event for us. A great way to enjoy time outdoors and raise vital funds for our work. Since its inception The Orwell Challenge has raised over £3.5 million for charity. Our team will be taking part and through sponsorships we’re hoping to raise £200 to support our work empowering people in Ipswich to change their lives.
With £200 we could take a dozen of our young people out on a creative trip to broaden their horizons, cover the costs of one of our ESOL classroom volunteers for two months, or even buy two of our young people new musical instruments to further their creativity.
