Youth Voice Matters Inspires New Youth News Platform
After the success of ICM's partnership project 'Youth Voice Matters' with Ipswich.co.uk the newspaper has launched Ipswich's first youth-led journalism platform run by and for 16-29 year olds.

Ipswich.co.uk have time and again shown their dedication to championing the stories of young people; they were the first media company in the country to sign the Power of Youth Charter, have facilitated and joined numerous youth workshops, and of course co-facilitated our Youth Voices Matter project. Now they're partnering with Suffolk New College to continue their work, championing Ipswich youth culture and ensuring youth voices get heard.
Uplifting Youth Voices.
Youth Voice Matters, our innovative community journalism programme co-run by ICM and ipswich.co.uk, worked to empower young people from diverse backgrounds across Ipswich, and tackle the under-representation of youth voices in local media. Participants built storytelling confidence and developed professional journalism skills through hands on workshops, field experiences, and mentorship. The project culminated with participants publishing articles on ipswich.co.uk with topics ranging from The Ipswich Portal to life in Maple Park by way of student pressure, football, flags and more.

It also taught us something: that the appetite was there, the talent was there, but the platform was not. It is the programme that inspired 1473 and made the need for it plain."
