March-April 2024
Our Making Waves programme recently collaborated with first-year students from Needham Market Football Club (NMFC) Academy on an exciting film project. This initiative, made possible through targeted grant funding from the NCS Trust, allowed us to create and deliver a unique group project for 17 young people aged 16-17.
To kick off the project, we held a series of focus and creative workshops. These sessions were essential for uncovering the students' ideas and vision for the film. The young participants explored the values of NMFC and how both the club and the academy contribute positively to the local community.
The aim of the project was to empower the young people to express their ideas, nurture teamwork, and provide hands-on experience in filmmaking, boosting their confidence and skills for the future.
Once we had a clear direction, we brought in professional videographer Ric Markin from Greyhound Creative. Over the course of two days, Ric captured the students in action, both in the classroom and on the training pitch. The filming concluded with interviews featuring the students, staff, and some of the club's dedicated superfans.
The final product is a five-minute film that encapsulates the spirit and impact of NMFC Academy.
The Big Reveal: Film Screening Event
July 24th, 2024
Last week, we returned to Needham Market FC Academy for the highly anticipated film screening. The event was a celebration of the hard work and creativity of the young filmmakers, with pizza and refreshments kindly donated by the East of England Co-op.
The screening event featured speeches from various people, including one of the young filmmakers, who shared their experience and insights from the project.
The students expressed that they "enjoyed the project much more than they thought they would" and were pleasantly surprised by how much input they had in the film's direction.
They appreciated having a significant say in the film's content, which made the experience all the more rewarding.
Huge thanks to Ric Markin from Greyhound Creative for his exceptional work on this project and to the East of England Co-op for donating food.
This project would not have been possible without the generous grant funding from the NCS Trust, which enabled us to engage 17 enthusiastic young people from the Needham Market Football Club Academy in this enriching experience.
Thank you to everyone who supported and participated in the Making Waves project. Here's to more creative endeavors that empower and inspire young minds.
We hope you enjoy the film as much as we enjoyed helping the young people make it.
We think you'll agree, the film is ace:
